Ascribing to today’s prevalent notion of heaven (eternal bliss, happiness, etc.) and given what we can conclude about the human condition (men are fickle and never content for long), let us take and old adage and apply it to this situation – “ignorance is bliss”
We can readily observe that the less someone knows, the less it takes to entertain them. Take a baby for example, new to the world, senses not fully developed, what does it take to entertain them? Peek-a-boo. Adults on the other hand require more to be entertained. But what it takes to entertain them is primarily based on education and intelligence. For contrast, compare the complexity of watching a car go in a circle for four hours and playing chess. Now, compare the demographics of chess players and NASCAR fans. Moving on, since education and intelligence are wholly functions of the mind, it would be a simple step to conclude that to lower intelligence would simply be a matter of disrupting the mind. Or better yet removing it. Knowing all this, if heaven promises eternal bliss, then the only way this is possible is to lobotomize everyone who qualifies to enter heaven under their particular articles of faith. This insures the ignorance and thus the happiness of all of heavens residents - just place them in a white room with a red ball. Are you happy? |
