The Rich Get Richer
I was surfing around today and found a cool page with a lot of scary graphs. It shows and discusses the average salaries of the primary income distributions among the poor, middle, and upper classes, and compares it to race, socioeconomic status, and such. What's scary is not the graphs-- anyone can make graphs look scary. What's scary is that they're directly derived from US Census data.
I went ahead and stole a few of the graphs to summarize some of the points the overall article makes. Hope you'll enjoy them as much as I did.

While poverty is declining overall (notice pre to post civil rights), guess who's still fucked.
I think the questions raised by the government's own statistics are simple.
Above all: If this is the Land of the Free (according to Republicans), and capitalism and deregulation are the way to go (according to Republicans), why is the majority of the population getting fucked over because of it, yet still celebrating (including the Republicans AND Democrats)?
I think this entire country has already drunk the Kool-Aid.

What are these people smoking? It must be impossible for anyone but those in upper 1% to think about this problem and not be extremely disturbed.
They say Communism was the great blunder of modern civlization, and the Capitalism is the answer, and that it works. But everyone knows that Capitalism is still an experiment...one which America has been doing longer than anyone else...but still only for a couple of centuries.
Communism was criticized because, although it works in theory, in practicality human greed interferes, the wealth ends up in the top 1% of the population who end up ruling the entire nation through a totalitarian state.
Well, it seems to me that Capitalism ends up the same way. While we say a free market helps distribute the wealth more effectively and provide a stable economy, the natural evolution of successful companies is Wal Mart. Is Exxon-Mobil. Is Microsoft. Then these companies become more influential over the government "of the people, for the people, by the people" and our government bends to the will of the wealthy corporations and individuals.
They manipulate the government so that they retain more of their wealth and can abuse the general rights and freedoms that a free, capitalist society should grant...and the rich get richer and poor get poorer and the country is controlled, eventually, through totalitarian means.
Same end as Communism...right?
So what's the answer?
